Long before the current NHL lockout a Poll at Fantasy Hockey Journal asked: "What will you do if there is no NHL season in 2004?" There were ten answer choices available to those taking the poll.
With the lockout in progress- and no end in sight- it's time to take a look at your answers and to offer some solutions on what do to help cure the "Lockout Blues".
An astounding 53% of the poll respondents (78 of 146) chose the "go insane" option when faced with a season without hockey. To those I suggest a visit to your family doctor who can refer you to a mental health professional. (Or just read on and use one or more of the solutions below.)
The second most popular response was "follow minor pro and junior hockey instead". Fourteen percent chose that option. "Play more hockey (or sports)" was the answer of 8% of the poll participants. For those wanting to lace up the blades, here is a good place to buy hockey equipment- HockeyGiant.com - Up to 40% Off Retail! Five percent answered "follow the NFL instead" and 4% said "follow the NBA instead". An internet search will reveal a multitude of quality NFL and NBA web sites. Or check out the Links at Fantasy Hockey Journal for more football and basketball sites.
Five percent said they would "do more internet surfing".
Three percent responded with "catch up on my reading". Yes, there are a lot of great hockey books out there! One percent said they would "watch more TV". Hopefully this would not just be episodes of Everybody Loves Raymond but would include hockey movies on video. (Are you the last hockey fan in North American to have not seen the original "Slap Shot"?)
To buy hockey books or hockey movies at low prices, search for "hockey books" or "hockey movies" in the search box below:
If you are fortunate you have an American Hockey League or Canadian Hockey League team in your area. If not you can visit the websites. The American Hockey League is the top minor pro league and the website is here. You can follow the Canadian Hockey League on the Net here.
And now is a good time to bone up on hockey history.
Two percent answered "Don't Know" and another 2% answered "Something Else-(Tell us in THE FORUM)" but they didn't tell us in THE FORUM. The inability of the "Don't Know" group leads me to believe they should join the "Go insane" group and visit their family doctor for referral to a mental health professional.
I believe a Bettman/Goodenow conspiracy could be behind the 2% that responded "Something else" but neglected to "Tell us in the Forum" as suggested. They seem to have an idea but are unwilling to share it with us- or each other.
OTHER THINGS TO DO:
Buy Hockey Posters. You could forget what the stars look like before this lockout is over. Put them on your wall to remind you or modify them to fit your dart board. Visit the Fantasy Hockey Journal Poster Shop.
